Fitting It Correctly

Size by neck, not weight. Measure around the top of your dog's neck, just behind the ears, and choose a chain about 2 to 3 in longer than that measurement. A chain that's too long hangs loosely and doesn't release properly.

With your dog on your left side, the chain should form the letter "P" as you face them, so it loosens immediately when the leash goes slack. If it forms a "9," take it off and put it on the other way.

Use Responsibly

Use a choke chain only for supervised walks and training, never as an everyday collar. Remove it when your dog is unsupervised, crated, or playing, and never use it for tie-outs. Don't use it on puppies or on dogs with breathing, throat, or neck conditions. A qualified trainer can show you how to use it correctly.
